7.2 SR Indonesia Earthquake Shake Some Cities on Sumatera Island Today

Indonesia EarthquakeAfter Philippine earthquake and California earthquake last few days, today (April 7 2010) Indonesia earthquake happened. The earthquake hit some provinces on Sumatera Island, Indonesia. BMKG – Indonesia Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Department – said that the epicenter of this 7.2 SR earthquake was in Sinabang island, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. On the other hand, United States Geological Survey (USGS) wrote down the mass power of this Indonesia earthquake is 7.7 SR.

According to Head Chief of BMKG Matai, Aceh Besar, Sahnan said that Sinabang people, where the epicenter of the Sumatera earthquake, run to the mountain in order to search the safe place if the tsunami happened. Sahnan also said that some people felt this earthquake power is almost same with the 26 Desember 2004 tsunami that hitted Aceh.

Related to tsunami issue, BMKG Indonesia at 07.05 has explained that there is no tsunami potency cause of this earthquake. Some cities that felt this earthquake that happened at 05.15 a.m are Kuta Cane, Medan, Nias island, Pematangsiantar and even felt on Riau and West Sumatera. Till this news post, there are no people died reported cause of this Indonesia earthquake.
