FAA Orders Airlines to Inspect Boeing 767

boeing-767U.S. airlines must inspect more than 100 Boeing 767 airliners more often than previously needed to see the cracks that could cause the engines to fall off, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered on Wednesday. The cracks can occur in the pylons that attach the engine to the wing. This problem emerged last month when American Airlines found cracks in at least 767 in the normal maintenance.

This FAA safety order affects 138 aircraft registered in the United States out of a global fleet of 314 planes. Aviation Officials in other countries usually follow the FAA for safety for the U.S. aircraft manufacturer. This command is only valid for 767 which have the original pylon design. Boeing changed the design after this problem occurred the first time. FAA issued a safety order on this plane in 2005 requires inspections for cracks every 1.500 flights. This new command will accelerate the schedule to every 400 flights or every 90 days, whichever came first. Previously, the FAA also has ordered to repair 1.212 cockpit window heaters on Boeing airliners and will probably replace the window when the Federal Aviation Administration issued a safety order last week.
