Leh Floods Killed 59 People and Hundreds Injured
Asia Friday, August 6th, 2010A massive cloudburst triggered flash flood in Leh town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh region, Srinagar, India. About 59 people dead and over 300 people injured when the flash flood struck the town at midnight Thursday.
According to Kuldeep Khoda, J&K Director General of Police, there were 59 bodies have been recovered from the flooded areas. And among the victim were three jawans of the Army Service Corps.
Respond to this Leh floods disaster, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has directed the police and civil administration to do rescue and relief work while grief over the flood disaster.
About 4,000 army men and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) with police personnel sent to make rescue operation and massive relief.
The flood and mud slides damage the communication system in the town. Flights from Delhi aim Leh have been cancelled out.
